I want to travel. I want to fearlessly pursue my future. I decided to quit my job and move on to the next journey much sooner than originally planned. My previous timeline had me moving out of Wisconsin at the beginning of May, but I am now moving in one week!
After considering the potential consequences, both positive and negative, I have decided that working a few more months in Wisconsin is not the ideal path for me. Just a year ago I stepped away from college, so stepping away from a job earlier than planned does not frighten me. After leaving college, the opportunity to experience a new city, live with my sister and brother-in-law, as well as get my foot in the residential construction door has been an incredible blessing!
I moved to Wisconsin with zero construction experience, so all the building knowledge I now possess has come from my time here. Framing houses full-time has been a tremendous growth opportunity for me, but I knew from the beginning that Wisconsin would not be my long-term home. The weather here in Madison is radically different from Washington, so I am proud to have endured a Wisconsin winter!
As a 20-year old without a mortgage, significant other, or many “adult obligations”, I have the freedom to live a sporadic and adventurous life! I am the youngest of four siblings who all have bachelor’s degrees, career-type jobs, and stable lifestyles. On the other hand, I have a wild desire to make my life a continuous adventure, which may not be viewed as secure or wise to most. That is why this is my dream, nobody else’s. After removing ties to the foregone income, it became much easier to step away from work early and move across the country without a next job lined up.
I want to explore and learn innumerable skills based on my interests. A single, fixed career path doesn’t seem to line up with my passions, so I have decided to take my occupational interests into my own hands. When I have the desire to build tiny homes, I will pursue that. When the urge to become a snowboard instructor hits, I will pursue that. There are resources available today allowing me to pursue these dreams, which would otherwise be dismissed as “pipe dreams” in the past. There are amazing opportunities available which I hope to encounter and overcome. At the beginning of March, I will be back in Washington beginning the next chapter of my incredible journey.
I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to live and work in Madison, now it is time to move on.
