Start Where You Are.

Updated: Jan 7, 2019

I can say that this year is off to a great start! As I try to avoid the faux energy and enthusiasm of a new year, along with the fateful “New Year’s Resolutions”, I’ve been very inspired today. After spending a week in Seattle with my family, I returned to Wisconsin with a refueled sense of drive, as well as a feeling of urgency to take my life into my own hands.

Living on my terms is fundamental to my outlook on life and how I formulate decisions. Taking time to reflect on 2018 brought to light wonderful memories, as well as a powerful feeling of personal growth that has occurred because of the massive action I have taken. The decision to step away from college and move to Wisconsin with nothing more than a plan for what I hoped to achieve, has allowed me to embrace fear and overcome many personal challenges. Running full speed after my goals has made me aware of the fact that I can truly accomplish anything I am passionate about.

Rather than dwell on any negative aspects associated with the life changes 2018 brought, I am full of joy and energy to keep dreaming, keep striving, and relentlessly pursue my wildest ambitions. I’ve been raised a competitor. A textbook Type-A, OCD, perfectionist. With a personality like mine, success is wired into my habits, and this past year brought forth the most trying of times, as I had to allow myself to fail to move in the direction I’m destined to go. I have realized that failure is temporary and necessary when in pursuit of your dreams. There is no true failure when you learn, persist, and overcome adversity on your journey. You must recognize that the struggles you face today will only remain as stepping stones when you reflect in the future.

After seeing the progression in my character, mindset, and abilities over the past year, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity of a new year. I can only look ahead with ambition and curiosity towards what I can accomplish in a whole year, given my current mindset and inner drive. Without making New Year’s Resolutions, I am determined to challenge myself beyond what I have in the past. I want to live deliberately and with passion every day. This year holds countless amazing opportunities which I fully intend on pursuing wholeheartedly. Taking the time to read and learn every day, pushing through discomfort and stagnation as I attempt to write more consistently, and overcoming mental adversity as I work to get back to peak physical condition, are major focuses as I enter this new year.

Start where you are and run full-speed in the direction of your dreams. Don’t allow your mind to stop you from pursuing what your heart desires, because until you attempt to succeed, you can only be met with regret in the future, as you reflect on the opportunities you let pass by. I’m learning every day, as I push past the fear and internal doubt standing between me and the life I have imagined for myself.
