Unlike any personal development book I have seen, Tools of Titans is able to convey wisdom and invoke curiosity in a matter of minutes. The power of Tim Ferriss’ writing inspires me, as he can present an obscure individual who I will instantly want to research more thoroughly after reading their profile in Tools of Titans. More astounding to me is the way in which quotes from his guests can provide insight applicable in my life, regardless of profession, background, or passions. The above quote, from Christopher Sommer, surfaces daily as I encounter obstacles, be it physical or mental.
This quote resonates powerfully given my current line of work as a framing carpenter. The blue-collar work ethic is a superb ability, much of society does not possess. Looking up to my grandpa and his career as a Union Lineman instilled a work ethic I seldom find in other’s my age. Not to say I am superior to others, I simply was raised with an incredible example of how hard work impacted true success in life. Blue-collar careers are not as common as previous generations, and I can see a lack of mental fortitude in those who expect success without tremendous dedication.
Not only do I love my current life stage learning how to build houses, I also receive underlying wisdom applicable to all endeavors in life, namely the “blue-collar work ethic.” Showing up every day, getting the work done, then going home provides a powerful lens through which I view long-term goals. When matched with indomitable will, the habit of showing up daily and putting in the work is what allows me to relentlessly pursue my most audacious goals. My advice to those seeking a success hack is to experience blue-collar work ethic first hand, then apply the same pertinacity to all aspects of your life! I hope to exemplify the lessons taught to me as well as inspire others through my persistence in pursuit of incredible accomplishments. Start today and show up every day to work on your dreams!
